Thorp Receives MCC Award

Coalitions in hyenas

BBC News featured research by Doctoral Candidate Jennifer Smith and Zoology Professor Kay Holekamp,  and others regarding their work on spotted hyenas joining forces to cooperatively form a coalition. The article, published in the journal Behavioral Ecology, explains how coalitions allow hyenas to gain an evolutionary advantage by helping their relatives win fights and from reinforcing the status quo.
