Office of Research Services

 

Natural Science BuildingThe CNS Office of Research Services is available for faculty within the College and within multi-unit collaborations. This office focuses on large-scale or multidisciplinary grants (such as training or program grants) but is available to all projects as time permits.

 

This pre-award office provides guidance and coordination for grant development including budget development and review, information to faculty on identifying funding opportunities and exploring research interests, assisting new faculty in becoming familiar with policies and procedures for proposal submission, review of proposals, and communication on research issues.

 

This office collaborates with other college pre-award offices to coordinate/develop staff training and communication. With increased research compliance issues, staff will assist units and remain up-to-date on new information.

The Research Services staff assist faculty with complete proposal submission process. This includes:

    • scheduling planning meetings,
    • creating timelines for proposal generation,
    • developing and preparing the budget and justification,
    • calculating indirect cost and split of overhead credit return negotiations,
    • collection of signatures for proposal processing,
    • working with multiple department and central administrators to finalize the proposal
    • meeting with chairpersons, faculty, and staff individually to discuss issues/questions related to upcoming grant submissions,
    • providing pre-review of budgets and administrative documents prior to routing, and
    • conducting personal orientations for new faculty to discuss proposal preparation procedures, rules, and regulations, and funding opportunities.

The staff also provide customized searches for faculty to identify potential funding opportunities from a variety of sources including the federal and state government, foundations, and associations. This office also works with development officers to find potential corporate sponsors or individual donors.
